VP of People

Location: Hybrid — 3 days per week at the HQ in Long Island City, New York, and 2 days wherever you work best.

Salary: $175,000–$200,000 annually, plus a 20% bonus contingent on achieving goals.

What you will do

• Own full-cycle recruiting, hiring strategy, interview processes, hiring rubrics, and candidate experience.
• Shape company culture and design scalable onboarding, engagement, and retention programs.
• Build compensation bands, leveling frameworks, market benchmarks, incentive plans, and equity programs.
• Own HR infrastructure, including HRIS, benefits administration, payroll coordination, policies, leave, and employee lifecycle processes.
• Guide employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and sensitive workplace matters.
• Partner with leadership on organization design, workforce planning, compliance, and the people roadmap beyond 100 employees.

Requirements

• 10+ years of HR experience, including meaningful generalist or HR leadership experience at a growth-stage company.
• Experience operating as a one-person HR department across strategic and operational responsibilities.
• Strong experience in compensation design, recruiting, and culture-building.
• Excellent judgment, discretion, prioritization, and ability to work through ambiguity.
• Experience with employment law compliance across New York and multiple states.
• Ability to work three days per week at the Long Island City headquarters.

• Experience managing or coordinating contingent or contract recruiters.
