SME Systems and Network Engineer (Cisco)

Location: Alexandria, Virginia, United States; hybrid, with travel or deployment to remote sites up to 25%

What you will do

• Serve as the primary Router SME for enterprise routers, ingest routers, and Cradlepoint edge devices.
• Build, configure, test, document, and troubleshoot transport and tactical network systems.
• Respond to high-priority network incidents and provide escalated technical support to Tier 2 teams.
• Develop and validate network architecture plans, transport engineering designs, technical briefs, and engineering design packages.
• Coordinate hardware provisioning, logistics, strategic spares, and lifecycle asset management.
• Lead field assessments, hardware integrations, and tactical transport deployments while mentoring engineering personnel.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience or equivalent experience, with background as a Router SME, Principal Systems Engineer, or Senior Network Engineer.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification, such as Security+ CE or CySA+.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise routers, ingest routers, Cradlepoint solutions, and complex network architecture plans.
• Experience providing elevated technical support, resolving critical network degradations, and working with Tier 2 teams.
• Experience with hardware integration, logistics coordination, network mapping tools, systems engineering modeling software, and tracking tools.
• Active Secret security clearance and willingness to travel or deploy to remote operational sites up to 25% are required.

Nice to have

• CCNA or CCNP certification.
• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard missions, Transport Platform Section, C5I, or related engineering directorates.
• Knowledge of military transport systems, satellite communications, tactical radios, maritime networking, secure enclaves, cross-domain solutions, or federal cybersecurity compliance.
• Experience with containerization, virtualization, or edge infrastructure in disconnected or low-bandwidth environments.
