Engineering Manager (AI) (Scheduling/SaaS): Leading the engineering team responsible for a business-critical, multi-tenant scheduling product used by businesses worldwide with an accent on technical direction, team development, performance, reliability, and AI-assisted development. Focus on modernising established workflows, scaling enterprise scheduling, making architecture trade-offs, and ensuring machine-drafted and customer-facing AI capabilities are secure, observable, maintainable, and reliable.

Location: Remote, based in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia

What you will do

Lead and grow the engineering team responsible for the Scheduling product.
Coach engineers, provide feedback, support career development, and hire as the team grows.
Shape technical direction across architecture, frameworks, build-versus-buy decisions, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Partner with Product, Design, and Data to turn customer problems into measurable roadmap outcomes.
Improve delivery predictability, reduce single points of failure, and guide incident learning and technical discovery.
Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools while establishing practices for code review, testing, observability, documentation, and customer-facing AI safeguards.

Requirements

Experience leading engineers as an Engineering Manager or senior engineer responsible for technical direction, delivery, and team growth.
Strong technical judgement and the ability to contribute to design discussions and explain engineering decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience delivering and operating customer-facing software while balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
Experience developing engineers through clear expectations, regular feedback, and coaching.
Experience partnering with Product and Design to set priorities and deliver outcomes.
First-hand experience using AI development tools and critically reviewing their output.

Nice to have

Experience building and operating distributed, cloud-native, or multi-tenant SaaS systems at scale.
Experience designing resilient services, event-driven systems, and large relational or NoSQL data stores.
Experience shipping LLM-backed or agentic capabilities in production.
Experience with workforce management, scheduling, or another operationally complex product.
