TL;DR
Avionics Certification Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (FAA/STC/TSO certification): Supporting the development, testing, integration, and regulatory approval of avionics systems and aircraft modifications with an accent on certification documentation, compliance analysis, and requirements traceability. Focus on researching FAA regulations, preparing engineering data packages, supporting test activities, and resolving certification-related technical issues.

Location: Phoenix, Arizona; full-time onsite internship from May through August. Applicants must qualify as a US Person to comply with US export control requirements.

Develops and supports avionics systems, aircraft equipment, and aviation modification programs for commercial, business, and military aircraft.

What you will do

  • Support certification documentation for Supplemental Type Certificate and Technical Standard Order programs.
  • Research FAA regulations, advisory circulars, policy documents, and industry standards.
  • Assist with certification plans, compliance checklists, requirements traceability matrices, and engineering data packages.
  • Evaluate avionics designs against certification requirements and support aircraft integration and verification activities.
  • Support test planning, test witnessing, analysis of test results, and resolution of certification-related technical issues.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, certification status reviews, and cross-functional engineering activities.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong interest in aviation, aerospace systems, avionics, and regulatory certification.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, electronic, aircraft, or systems engineering concepts.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in Phoenix and qualify as a US Person under US export control requirements.

Nice to have

  • Coursework or experience in avionics, aerospace systems, electronics, certification, or systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, including 14 CFR Parts 21, 23, 25, 27, or 29.
  • Knowledge of communication, navigation, surveillance, flight management, or cockpit display systems.
  • Experience with requirements management or systems engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Cursor.
