Principal Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, United States; onsite at the Bentonville Home Office

Salary: $110,000–$220,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation

What you will do

• Lead platform engineering initiatives delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and machine learning frameworks.
• Architect and implement cloud-native distributed systems with high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
• Oversee the software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Integrate AI and machine learning technologies into products supporting customer and associate experiences.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across multiple teams while promoting engineering best practices.
• Translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable success metrics with cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Extensive experience leading platform engineering initiatives involving shared infrastructure and scalable machine learning frameworks.
• Strong expertise in cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, high availability, and fault tolerance.
• Proficiency in the software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and languages such as Python and Java.
• Experience architecting AI/ML-integrated applications and applying model-driven design.
• Technical leadership, mentoring, collaboration, and sound judgment focused on scalability and maintainability.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
