Principal Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: Hybrid in Birmingham, AL, with at least 2 days per week in the office, typically Wednesdays and Thursdays. Similar hybrid roles may be based in Minneapolis, MN or San Francisco, CA.

Salary: $140,000–$235,000 per year, with additional potential bonus and restricted stock unit eligibility.

What you will do

• Architect and deploy the foundational Agentic AI platform for real-time routing, pay, and coverage optimization.
• Integrate autonomous reasoning loops, tool-binding frameworks, and multi-agent orchestration into high-throughput microservices.
• Design AI architectures that operate within complex, existing production systems and integrate real-time signals such as location, weather, and inventory.
• Develop agent lifecycle management, including registration, approval workflows, role-based access control, and compliance standards.
• Build offline and online evaluation strategies, human-in-the-loop escalation triggers, and monitoring for agent performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with data science, engineering, and product teams while leading technical discussions and mentoring senior engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend software development experience architecting and operating high-throughput, multi-region distributed microservices.
• Experience with SOA, microservices, and distributed architectures, plus proficiency in Python or Golang.
• Proven experience building and deploying LLM-based systems beyond simple chat interfaces.
• Experience with prompt engineering, agent definitions, tool binding, reasoning loops, memory systems, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Experience with Agent FinOps, token utilization, cost-per-execution optimization, and ROI-focused AI delivery.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with ML and data science modeling and optimization techniques.
• Experience with DataDog or similar observability tooling.
• Proficiency with Google ADK, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration platforms.
• Familiarity with vector storage, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent tracing tools such as LangSmith or Langfuse.
