R&D Chemist (Polymer and Materials Science)

Location: Office/lab based at the Wantage site, Monday to Friday

Salary: Starting from £32,500 per annum

What you will do

• Conduct fundamental polymer and materials science research for new and existing products and technologies.
• Develop and refine test methods to evaluate polymer behaviour and material performance.
• Plan and execute Design of Experiments studies, including statistical analysis and interpretation.
• Operate and manage material and chemical analytical equipment.
• Provide scientific expertise for R&D projects and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Prepare, author, and present technical reports, findings, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline; a Master’s or PhD is preferred depending on specialization.
• Knowledge of polymer and materials science and the ability to relate material properties to product performance.
• Experience in analytical testing and accurately following test methods.
• Prior experience in an R&D laboratory environment; industrial experience is highly advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, project management, and organisation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and global teams while maintaining strong safety and laboratory standards.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Design of Experiments and statistical analysis tools such as Minitab.
• Master’s or PhD qualification in a relevant specialization.
