Director Patent Attorney (Biotechnology)

Location: Warren, New Jersey or Tarrytown, New York. Hybrid role requiring 4 days per week on site.

What you will do

• Identify, capture, and prosecute inventions related to manufacturing and bioprocessing.
• Prepare and prosecute global patent applications covering cell development, cell culture, purification, assay development, formulation, packaging, and delivery.
• Develop patent strategies with scientists and manufacturing development leaders for a growing intellectual property portfolio.
• Lead outside counsel and US and foreign administrative patent actions, including oppositions, third-party observations, and inter partes reviews.
• Conduct patent landscape overviews, freedom-to-operate analyses, validity assessments, and patentability assessments.
• Support due diligence, agreements, transactional work, policy questions, and emerging legal issue analysis.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in life sciences, such as biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field.
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice before the USPTO and a license to practice law in at least one state.
• Membership in the New York bar or eligibility for in-house licensure in New York.
• 5–10 years of experience in a law firm setting preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the biological arts.
• Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, writing, conflict-resolution, and project-management skills.
