Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property Litigation (Biotechnology)

Location: Preferred in Thousand Oaks, California; remote within the United States is also available. The role requires working client group hours as needed and includes 15–20% domestic and international travel.

What you will do

• Manage U.S. and international patent disputes in judicial and administrative tribunals.
• Develop infringement, validity, and enforceability strategies with outside counsel and internal legal teams.
• Conduct witness interviews, discovery, depositions, motion and brief drafting, and trial preparation.
• Participate in trials, appeals, mediations, and negotiations involving disclosure, protective, and settlement agreements.
• Develop and advise on intellectual property strategies supporting business and research activities.
• Work with scientific experts on technical and remedies-related issues.

Requirements

• J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least seven years of experience litigating U.S. patent disputes, including four or more years involving biotechnology matters.
• At least four years of intellectual property law practice and experience with U.S. biosimilar litigation.
• Trial experience in bench or jury proceedings and USPTO registration.
• Scientific degree or working knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, cellular biology, protein chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Strong legal analysis, drafting, communication, leadership, client service, prioritization, and project-management skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to foreign patent and SPC enforcement, nullity, PMNOC, opposition, or biosimilar proceedings.
