Senior Software Engineer, Fullstack (AI)

Location: Permanent remote setup; hiring is limited to acceptable locations based on job function. Flexibility is required for overlap with US time zones, up to 10% travel, and attendance at the annual company offsite, typically held in Mexico.

Salary: €95,000–€110,000 gross annually in Ireland, or €6,000+ gross per month in Bulgaria, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Own customer-facing search features and workflows across frontend and backend systems from technical planning through production.
• Build AI-powered product experiences, including the services behind them and interfaces that make their output useful and trustworthy.
• Develop responsive user experiences with Vue and contribute to Python and Django services.
• Design and improve search, indexing, retrieval, and data workflows using technologies such as Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL.
• Improve performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability while troubleshooting complex production issues.
• Participate in on-call and incident response rotations and collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production software across frontend and backend systems.
• Strong Python or similar programming experience with Django or a comparable web framework.
• Experience building maintainable user-facing applications with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search technology, TypeScript in a large codebase, and design systems or shared component libraries.
• Experience diagnosing production issues, making technical trade-offs, and contributing to operational reliability.
• Ability to adjust working hours for overlap with US time zones and work from an acceptable hiring location for the role.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, relational databases, Celery, search and information-retrieval features, or high-traffic SaaS systems.
• Experience building and evaluating customer-facing features backed by LLMs or other AI models.
• Interest in journalism, news, media, or social media.
