Senior Software Engineer 1, Picksy Services (Node.js/TypeScript)

Location: Remote in the US, with hybrid work required three days per week for candidates within commuting distance of offices in New York, Des Moines, Los Angeles, Seattle, or Edmonton.

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 per year, depending on location and experience.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable, highly available services, APIs, features, and monitoring functions.
• Own production services end-to-end, including troubleshooting, bottleneck resolution, reliability improvements, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with data, web, mobile, product, design, and engineering stakeholders to deliver Picksy capabilities.
• Lead architecture discussions, code reviews, technical debt prioritization, and shared engineering practices.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to documentation, automated testing, and technical task planning.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant professional technology experience or equivalent industry experience, plus a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of REST, service architecture, monitoring, horizontal scalability, and highly available production systems with SLAs.
• Production experience with AWS or GCP, containers, continuous integration, and infrastructure as code.
• Extensive experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS; familiarity with Java and GraphQL.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, graph databases, indexing, distributed locking, media transformation, and Elasticsearch or Solr.
• Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, architecture leadership, mentoring, and Agile delivery skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with HTML/CSS and frontend frameworks such as Vue or Nuxt.
