Staff Software Engineer, Screenings & Verifications

Location: Denver, Colorado, United States, or San Francisco, California, United States; expected to work from the office 3+ days per week. Relocation to a hirify.global hub may be supported.

Salary: $224,000–$264,000 USD in San Francisco; $190,000–$223,000 USD in Denver.

What you will do

• Own product development from ideation and design through implementation and release.
• Design technical architecture for complex, multi-system screening and verification workflows.
• Integrate candidate-facing systems with vendor data pipelines and establish reusable engineering patterns.
• Lead technical initiatives focused on organizational growth, scalability, and technical debt reduction.
• Collaborate with Design, Product, Data, and engineering leadership to run experiments and deliver impactful features.
• Mentor engineers, promote development best practices, and ensure service quality, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience and 3+ years in a project leadership role.
• Deep backend development expertise in Ruby, Node, or a similar technology, with working proficiency in JavaScript and React.
• Experience building scalable, high-performance systems with automated testing and observability.
• Strong ownership from feature design through production release and effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong communication, project management, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.
