Staff Safety Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Union City, California, United States. Applicants must be able to work in the United States.

Salary: $166,000–$249,000 per year, plus benefits and equity.

hirify.global is a Series C-funded startup applying machine learning and robotics to autonomous forklift navigation and infrastructure-free pallet handling for logistics and warehouse operations.

What you will do

• Architect and embed safety requirements across the autonomous robotics platform in partnership with Product and Engineering.
• Own end-to-end certification processes for complex autonomous systems spanning hardware, software, and cybersecurity.
• Audit and improve safety architecture, EHS programs, compliance documentation, and deployment protocols.
• Represent the company on national and international standards committees and advocate for standards relevant to embodied AI.
• Serve as the safety authority for OEM partners and customers, translating safety architecture into clear business and engineering requirements.
• Use generative AI and modern tooling to research regulations, create technical documentation, and streamline hazard analysis.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on safety engineering experience in robotics, autonomous systems, automotive, or heavy industrial automation.
• Deep working knowledge of OSHA regulations, IEC 61508, ISO 13849 Parts 1 and 2, and ISO/SAE 21434.
• Experience participating in industry standards committees and influencing executives, OEMs, and regulatory bodies.
• Ability to challenge engineering assumptions and design innovative, compliant safety solutions.
• Experience working autonomously in a high-growth startup environment.
• Must be able to work in the United States; H-1B visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with functional safety audits and safety certification for complex hardware and software systems.
• Strong communication skills for translating safety standards into actionable engineering requirements.
