Head of Product Safety (Robotics)

Salary: $215,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Build and execute the product safety roadmap for autonomous earthmoving machines.
• Define safety requirements, technical safety concepts, and system-level safety architectures across AI, hardware, software, autonomy, HMI, and controls.
• Own safety plans and conduct HARA, SFMEA, FTA, and DFMEA analyses across the product portfolio.
• Partner with third-party certification agencies and lead safety and compliance certification processes.
• Establish simulation-first safety verification processes, including analysis of incidents, near misses, and fleet telemetry.
• Build and lead the product safety function in partnership with product, engineering, verification, and end-customer teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, robotics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of safety engineering experience in robotics or complex electromechanical systems, including ownership of a full product safety certification cycle.
• 5+ years of experience building product safety teams.
• Expertise in standards such as ISO 17757, ISO 19014, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or SOTIF.
• TÜV or equivalent functional safety certification.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate safety theory into practical product development processes.

Nice to have

• Experience building safety-critical systems for autonomous earthmoving machines.
• Experience with simulation-first frameworks, HIL/SIL testing, fault injection, fleet telemetry, or field validation.
