Company

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor for critical power applications.

What you will do

  • Own sensor and instrumentation design and analysis for the Kaleidos microreactor.
  • Design, specify, and qualify in-core and ex-core detector systems for neutron flux and radiation monitoring.
  • Model detector response using radiation transport codes and verify performance requirements.
  • Evaluate sensor survivability in high-temperature, high-radiation, and accident-condition environments.
  • Integrate sensor outputs with reactor monitoring, protection, control, and data acquisition systems.
  • Support instrumentation verification and validation against customer and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or an equivalent accredited degree.
  • 1–2+ years of nuclear engineering industry experience, including exposure to radiation detection or instrumentation.
  • Experience with radiation transport methods and codes such as MCNP, OpenMC, or Serpent.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, C#, FORTRAN, or another scientific computing language.
  • Basic knowledge of thermal-hydraulic principles and experience producing high-quality engineering work.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary and to work fully onsite.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience designing, testing, or qualifying sensors in high-temperature or high-radiation environments.
  • Experience with DAQ systems, reactor control integration, variance reduction, or high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, or SpaceClaim.
  • Experience with dose consequence methods and software such as MAACS or NRC-RADTRAN.

Culture & Benefits

  • Substantial incentive stock plan for full-time employees.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, dental, life, accident, hospital, critical illness, commuter, and FSA/HSA benefits.
  • Eight weeks of paid parental leave for all parents, with additional paid pregnancy leave for California employees.
  • Flexible PTO, catered lunch, snacks, drinks, and sponsored One Medical memberships.
  • Team events, happy hours, and in-person collaboration at the El Segundo headquarters.
