TL;DR
Siting Engineer (Nuclear Energy/NRC Licensing): Owning nuclear site development from candidate-site screening and FEL 0 handoff through characterization, licensing, design integration, and construction readiness with an accent on NRC siting regulations, field investigations, and licensing-grade documentation. Focus on managing geotechnical, geological, seismic, hydrological, ecological, and meteorological programs, integrating GIS and AI tools, and maintaining site data continuity through construction.

Location: Columbia, SC or Washington, D.C.

Salary: $150,000–$173,000 annually, paid bi-weekly.

Company

Develops AI-enabled nuclear energy infrastructure through a fleet-scale, design-once-build-many approach for deploying safe, reliable, and affordable nuclear reactors.

What you will do

  • Support candidate-site screening through fatal-flaw assessments, hazard standoff analyses, buildable-area and cooling-water evaluations, and population and exclusion-criteria checks.
  • Own the site technical baseline from FEL 0 admission through characterization, licensing, design integration, and construction readiness.
  • Scope and manage geotechnical, geological, seismological, hydrological, ecological, and meteorological investigation programs.
  • Prepare site-related ESP and COL application content, including SSAR/FSAR Chapter 2 inputs, Environmental Reports, NRC pre-application materials, audits, and RAI responses.
  • Translate site characterization into early site works, excavation, constructability, and geotechnical baseline packages for construction.
  • Use AI tools, GIS platforms, analytics, dashboards, and the Nuclear Operating System to track site data, characterization progress, and gate readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in power plant or large industrial facility siting, site characterization, or site licensing and environmental work.
  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR Parts 50, 52, and 100 and NRC Regulatory Guides 7, 1.91, and 1.23.
  • Hands-on experience scoping or executing geotechnical, hydrological, meteorological, or seismic field investigations.
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience producing licensing-grade or investor-grade documentation.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ESP or COL applications, Environmental Reports, or SSAR/FSAR Chapter 2 development.
  • Familiarity with large light-water reactor site parameter envelopes, including AP1000.
  • Experience with early site works, excavation support, or geotechnical baseline reporting.
  • Knowledge of PSHA, geological characterization, GIS, geospatial land control analysis, or FEL stage-gate development.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist license.

Culture & Benefits

  • AI-first working environment with continuous use of technology and automation.
  • Values-driven culture emphasizing transparency, responsibility, unity, scrappiness, tenacity, and safety.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Generous vacation policy and holidays.
