Location: San Francisco, California, United States; onsite facility operations required

Base salary: $69,300–$110,700 for Building Engineer; $82,600–$131,900 for Sr. Building Engineer.

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, air-handling units, and hydronic systems.
• Maintain building automation, electrical distribution, emergency power, lighting, plumbing, fire/life-safety, elevator, and access-control systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, inspect equipment, maintain logs and work orders, and identify potential failures.
• Respond to alarms, power outages, water leaks, HVAC failures, equipment breakdowns, and other building emergencies, including after-hours/on-call duties as required.
• Coordinate contractors and vendors, verify completed work, and provide responsive service to building occupants and internal customers.
• At the senior level, act as a systems subject-matter expert and project manager for upgrades, repairs, construction administration, training guides, and major building modifications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Typically 5–6 years of related experience for Building Engineer or 6+ years for Sr. Building Engineer in a large commercial, high-rise, mission-critical, institutional, or industrial facility.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics and apply structured troubleshooting logic to identify root causes.
• Experience with building automation systems, CMMS/work-order systems, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, emergency power, chillers, cooling towers, air-handling units, pumps, VFDs, hydronic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office; EPA 608 certification is preferred.
• Senior candidates need advanced plumbing diagnostics, project scope development, construction oversight, project management, and advanced BAS knowledge including Metasys and Automated Logic.
