Company

Root & Branch is a Seattle-based nonprofit focused on preserving affordable housing and providing practical services to residents of affordable housing communities.

What you will do

  • Lead resident-facing relocation activities for the renovation of Burke-Gilman Place, a 100+ unit HUD-assisted affordable housing community.
  • Build trusted relationships with residents and explain renovation schedules, relocation requirements, benefits, and available resources.
  • Coordinate temporary and permanent relocations, track households, resolve issues, and support residents who need additional assistance.
  • Provide direct support to residents facing housing instability, delinquency, potential eviction, or other significant challenges.
  • Connect residents with rental assistance, public benefits, government agencies, nonprofit providers, and community organizations.
  • Build Root & Branch’s resident-services strategy, procedures, partnerships, reporting, outcome measures, and scalable referral systems.

Requirements

  • Approximately 4–6 years of experience in affordable housing, resident services, social services, housing stability, community development, or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with low-income households and knowledge of affordable housing, rental assistance, public benefits, or housing-stability systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, organizational, and independent-working skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations calmly, manage multiple cases and commitments, and build trust with residents from varied backgrounds.
  • Comfort working with data, spreadsheets, basic technology, and program tracking.
  • Experience with HUD-assisted housing, affordable housing compliance, resident relocation, eviction prevention, or occupied renovations is valuable but not required.

Nice to have

  • MSW or another relevant graduate degree.
  • Experience as a Resident Services Coordinator, Housing Stability Specialist, Senior Case Manager, Program Manager, social worker, or in a similar role.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with standard employee benefits.
  • Hands-on opportunity to help build the organization’s first resident-services program.
  • Access to the resources and infrastructure of an established affordable housing organization.
  • Opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as programs and communities expand.
  • Inclusive equal opportunity workplace that values different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
