TL;DR
Associate Chemist (HRMS): Preparing and analyzing environmental samples using standard analytical techniques with an accent on HRMS sample preparation, data evaluation, quality control, and laboratory safety. Focus on performing chemical analyses, maintaining specialized instruments, documenting quality issues, and managing scheduled QC samples during a second-shift laboratory schedule.
Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. Onsite laboratory position on the second shift, Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00 PM-10:30 PM; training is Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM.
Compensation: $18-$20.90 per hour, including a 10% shift differential; the stated base rate is $18-$19 per hour.

What you will do
- Prepare environmental samples, with a primary focus on HRMS sample preparation.
- Perform chemical analyses using approved methods, standard techniques, specialized instruments, and instrument-specific software.
- Evaluate, quantify, record, and report analytical data and unusual test occurrences.
- Complete QC samples, including MDL, LOD/LOQ, and PT work, and document nonconformances when required.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, sample purging, glassware handling, supply inventory, and laboratory housekeeping.
- Follow SOPs, quality assurance procedures, health and safety requirements, and assigned training documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Chemistry or a related field, or two years of related laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
- Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship is required.
- Professional working proficiency in English is required, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Ability to work with organic solvents, laboratory glassware, specialized equipment, and prolonged standing.
- Ability to interpret written procedures, perform calculations, analyze data, identify issues, and propose practical solutions.
- Strong organization, communication, collaboration, accuracy, and deadline-management skills.
Nice to have
- Previous organic sample preparation experience.
- Previous laboratory or production-setting experience.
- Experience with environmental testing disciplines such as metals, PFAS, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, radiochemistry, wet chemistry, or high- and low-resolution preparation and analysis.
