Estimator (Heavy Civil Construction)

Location: Central Office in Burnsville, Minnesota, United States; onsite work with travel to project locations and area offices as needed

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus

A full-service heavy civil and industrial contractor building highways, bridges, mines, dams, rail infrastructure, and other critical projects across the United States.

What you will do

• Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid documents, proposals, and bid construction schedules.
• Analyze plans, specifications, engineering documents, contractual requirements, site conditions, construction methods, and equipment utilization.
• Develop production-based costs and price assigned work items using HCSS Heavy Bid and established crew databases.
• Solicit, compare, and analyze material supplier and subcontractor quotes, clarifying scopes, inclusions, exclusions, and risks.
• Attend pre-bid site visits, support estimate closing, and transition successful projects to Operations.
• Review potential bid opportunities, support business development, and maintain relationships with clients, communities, vendors, and partners.

Requirements

• 3–7 years of experience in general engineering construction.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid or similar estimating software, AGTEK or similar earthwork programs, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Knowledge of Primavera P6 Scheduling and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to review technical issues, develop timely solutions, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and senior management.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in office and construction-site environments, including occasional physical work and exposure to job-site risks.
