TL;DR
HIL Test Engineer - System Test (Autonomous Transit): Building and operating Hardware-in-the-Loop test environments for an integrated autonomous transit system with an accent on embedded controllers, simulated and real hardware interfaces, automation, and data analysis. Focus on expanding regression coverage, analyzing failure modes and telemetry, and preparing test evidence for system readiness and releases.

Location: Remote, with some travel or on-site presence expected for integration campaigns, test environment bring-up, and major release demonstrations.

Company

hirify.global is developing a carbon-neutral autonomous public transportation system using standardized vehicles operating on dedicated roadways.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop test plans, procedures, and automated test cases for integrated autonomous transit behavior.
  • Build, configure, maintain, and improve HIL benches, test harnesses, simulated and real hardware interfaces, network setups, timing synchronization, and data acquisition.
  • Translate requirements, operational scenarios, safety needs, and regression concerns into repeatable tests with clear pass/fail criteria.
  • Execute and troubleshoot tests involving embedded controllers, vehicle subsystems, autonomy interfaces, communications, diagnostics, fault handling, and degraded modes.
  • Analyze logs, telemetry, traces, dashboards, and test data; track failures through resolution and verify fixes.
  • Improve automation, simulators, dashboards, data pipelines, reporting workflows, and readiness evidence in collaboration with engineering, safety, quality, operations, and deployment teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, robotics, aerospace, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of experience in system test, HIL testing, embedded systems test, systems integration, product validation, autonomous systems, robotics, transportation, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, industrial automation, or comparable complex hardware/software systems.
  • Experience developing or executing integration-level or system-level tests, including scenario design, procedures, acceptance criteria, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience with complex electromechanical or cyber-physical systems involving software, controls, sensors, networks, hardware, safety constraints, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to analyze logs, telemetry, traces, test data, and system behavior using Python, dashboards, log viewers, notebooks, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical risks, test outcomes, and blockers clearly.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or extending HIL benches, test harnesses, simulators, automated regression frameworks, or continuous-integration test execution.
  • Experience with embedded systems, controller testing, vehicle networks, diagnostics, fault injection, real-time systems, or hardware/software integration.
  • Ability to read, modify, or write C/C++ for embedded systems, test harnesses, or low-level debugging.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, automated transit, railway systems, robotics, aerospace, automotive ADAS, or other safety-critical mobility platforms.
  • Experience with requirements, issue-tracking, lifecycle, or transportation and safety standards tools and frameworks.

Culture & Benefits

  • Remote work with hands-on laboratory, vehicle, test-track, and project-site activities when required.
  • Cross-functional collaboration across autonomy, vehicle hardware, embedded software, systems engineering, safety, infrastructure, operations, quality, and deployment.
  • Work spanning simulation, software-based test environments, HIL testing, lab testing, vehicle testing, commissioning, and release readiness.
  • Opportunity to improve practical test infrastructure, automation, tooling, and evidence for a safety-critical autonomous transit system.
