Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Loan Origination and Reporting) (Fintech)

Location: Remote within the United States. New hires attend an in-person onboarding experience, and some roles may occasionally require in-person work at an Affirm office.

Base pay: $195,000–$255,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $173,000–$233,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Build and scale real-time data platforms and services for loan origination and accurate reporting.
• Own quarterly goals and lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended technical problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on product decisions, constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Identify and resolve project, process, technology, and business issues.
• Operate and improve service availability through metrics, monitoring, escalation, and on-call support.
• Establish engineering quality standards, contribute to technical communication, and develop team talent.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, or similar languages.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Deep expertise in scalable backend data pipelines and batch processing with Spark, Airflow, or similar distributed frameworks.
• Ability to define technical plans and create elegant, simple, extensible designs and high-quality code.
• Experience making significant changes safely in large codebases, supported by effective tools and engineering practices.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
