Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Loan Origination and Reporting) (Fintech)

Location: Remote US; most roles can be performed almost anywhere within the country of employment, with occasional in-person work and in-person onboarding.

Base pay: $195,000–$255,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $173,000–$233,000 per year in other US states.

What you will do

• Build and scale real-time data platforms and services for loan origination and accurate reporting to Affirm and financial partners.
• Own quarterly team goals and lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended technical problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Identify and resolve project, process, technology, and business issues.
• Operate team services by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and supporting on-call and keep-the-lights-on efforts.
• Improve code review and design standards, contribute through technical writing and talks, and develop team talent through feedback and guidance.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Deep expertise designing and operating scalable backend data pipelines and batch processing systems using Spark, Airflow, or similar distributed frameworks.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Ability to write high-quality, maintainable code and make significant changes safely in large codebases using appropriate tools and practices.
• Ownership of professional growth and proactive feedback-seeking from teammates, managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
