Medical Assistant (Healthcare)

Location: Tufts Medical Center Community Care - Norfolk, United States; may require coverage at satellite locations.

Salary: $22.00–$25.15 per hour, based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

• Coordinate patient flow, room utilization, and communication of delays across the outpatient clinic.
• Prepare patients, exam rooms, and medical records for provider visits, including collecting histories and confirming identifiers.
• Measure and document vital signs, pain levels, medications, and patient safety assessments.
• Assist providers and nursing staff with examinations, treatments, procedures, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
• Support referrals, prior authorizations, diagnostic and surgical scheduling, billing documentation, and electronic medical record updates.
• Maintain supplies, equipment quality checks, infection-control practices, and administrative communications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a clinical program or six months of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
• Basic Life Support certification, or ability to obtain it within three months.
• Ability to read, write, and spell in English for accurate documentation and message taking.
• Basic to moderate computer skills, including electronic medical record systems; knowledge of Epic.
• Ability to work with patients across the lifespan, follow universal precautions, protect HIPAA information, and perform physical duties including prolonged standing and occasional lifting of 30–35 pounds.

Nice to have

• Two years of medical office experience.
