Senior Systems Software Development Engineer (Embedded Linux)

Location: Hybrid role based in the Boston, MA or Seattle, WA hirify.global office, with in-office work 4 days per week. Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Design and implement real-time system software architectures using SMP and AMP for embedded audio systems.
• Bring up, debug, and maintain U-Boot, embedded Linux, and new hardware platforms.
• Lead board bring-up and debugging for PCBs using ARM SoCs, WiSoCs, Bluetooth SoCs, and microcontrollers.
• Integrate vendor SDKs, BSP components, and operating-system modules into build and release processes.
• Develop HAL libraries, platform improvements, and system-level validation and testing.
• Coordinate with silicon and component vendors while supporting hardware teams and OS modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience developing firmware or system software for embedded systems.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and significant experience with embedded Linux, kernel internals, and device drivers.
• Experience bringing up and debugging systems with U-Boot and common boot flows.
• Experience with performance-critical software, hardware-software debugging, and interfaces such as DDR, NAND, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, I2S, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth/BLE.

Nice to have

• Experience with HDMI, including Video, ARC/eARC, and CEC, as well as USB Power Delivery.
• Hardware design exposure, including the ability to read schematics and datasheets.
• Experience with FreeRTOS, bare-metal microcontroller applications, Yocto/OpenEmbedded, and GCC, binutils, or GDB.
• Experience using JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes for low-level debugging.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
