Staff Engineer, Wafer Quality Assurance

Location: San Jose, California, with a secondary office location in Fremont, California

Salary: $102,500–$136,600 annually

What you will do

• Perform wafer paper failure analysis and provide dispositions for customer-flagged issues.
• Facilitate manufacturing readiness review and process design readiness meetings.
• Drive 8D closure and CAPA implementation to prevent recurring quality issues.
• Lead FMEA activities across wafer fabrication to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
• Partner with process, equipment, manufacturing, and data engineering teams on automated quality surveillance and anomaly detection.
• Evaluate and deploy generative AI, digital agents, and AI-powered quality engineering tools for predictive quality and engineering productivity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, data science, or a related technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in quality assurance or quality engineering within semiconductor or wafer manufacturing.
• Strong root-cause analysis, problem-solving, data analysis, and statistical or model-performance interpretation skills.
• Familiarity with FMEA and end-to-end quality management in semiconductor manufacturing.
• Understanding of wafer products, HAMR, SPC, wafer process build, and the connections between process, equipment, manufacturing, and backend operations.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration, data storytelling, visualization, and continuous improvement skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI/ML or generative AI systems.
• Knowledge of large language models, Copilot technologies, digital agents, or AI-enabled quality monitoring systems.
