Manager of Authorizations (Healthcare)

Location: Remote with required travel to New Hyde Park, New York; Conditions: New York, New York

Salary: $70,000–$80,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the Authorizations function within Finance and oversee daily operations, escalations, payer barriers, workflow delays, and service-delivery risks.
• Manage the Authorizations Team Lead and eight team members through coaching, performance oversight, training, and accountability.
• Evaluate workflows, identify operational gaps, and build scalable processes, documentation, tools, and team practices.
• Drive process improvement and change management initiatives, including system and automation enhancements.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, and other stakeholders to resolve recurring authorization issues.
• Monitor productivity, service-level goals, reporting, and operational metrics to guide staffing and process decisions.

Requirements

• 3+ years of managerial experience, preferably in operations, finance, revenue cycle, authorizations, or another process-driven environment.
• Demonstrated experience coaching employees, setting expectations, building accountability, and managing performance.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills, including the ability to identify trends and communicate operational insights.
• Experience coordinating projects, improving processes, aligning stakeholders, and supporting adoption of new workflows.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, organization, and follow-through skills.
• Comfort using technology, reporting tools, automation concepts, and AI-enabled resources to improve efficiency.

Nice to have

• Advanced Excel experience with VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and data validation.
• Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, or similar reporting and automation tools.
• Experience with insurance authorizations, revenue cycle, healthcare operations, payer processes, system implementations, or workflow redesign.
