Cost Engineering Intern (Automotive)

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States; hybrid schedule with four days per week in the office and one day remote. Applicants may relocate to Portland, and relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Salary: $21–$29 per hour, based on anticipated graduation year.

What you will do

• Calculate bottom-up costs for future and series-production truck parts and tooling.
• Disassemble and document truck parts, including weights, dimensions, and images, and compare them with Daimler and competitor parts.
• Analyze materials, manufacturing processes, labor, and fixed and variable costs using technical specifications, engineering proposals, 3D models, and part teardowns.
• Prepare presentations and consolidate cost calculations, price assessments, and regional and global comparisons.
• Develop cost optimization ideas and improve costing methods, templates, and digitalization initiatives.
• Support an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States at the time of application; visa sponsorship and existing visa holders are not accepted.
• Currently enrolled in an upper-division Bachelor's engineering program or higher at an accredited college or university, or graduated within one year of the position start date.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong oral and written communication, organizational, creative, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and interest in manufacturing technology and continuous learning.

Nice to have

• Experience with Siemens NX or other 3D modeling CAD software.
• Experience with assembly or disassembly of parts and tools.
• Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Power Apps, or Agentic Reference Calculation development.
