Designer, Sweaters (Knitwear)

Location: New York, NY

Salary: USD 95,000–125,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop Pre-Collection sweater categories from initial concept through salesman sample and final production readiness.
• Research seasonal trends, silhouettes, colors, yarns, stitches, and construction techniques for commercially relevant knitwear concepts.
• Select yarns with the Yarn Sourcing Manager while balancing design intent, quality, and cost.
• Develop knit swatches, stitch explorations, sketches, presentation boards, and CAD decks for design leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Partner with Product Development and Technical Design throughout the product lifecycle, including PLM updates, fit, construction, and garment engineering.
• Review prototypes, fittings, lab dips, and yarn approvals; provide feedback to vendors and mentor the Design Assistant.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in the Advanced Contemporary or Designer market.
• Strong background in sweater design, yarn development, stitch structures, garment construction, and seasonal concept development.
• Strong sketching, Photoshop, Procreate, and CAD skills.
• Technical knowledge of stitch construction, machine capabilities, and finishing details.
• Experience with PLM systems and cross-functional product development.
• Strong communication skills and familiarity with Italian and Asian yarn mills and yarn properties.
