Senior Engineering Manager (Media Platform)

Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada — hybrid. At least one in-person interview, mandatory onboarding in Ottawa during the first week, and periodic quarterly visits to the Ottawa office are required.

Salary: CA$193,000–CA$227,000 annually, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Set the technical strategy and roadmap for the Media Platform team.
• Lead the design and evolution of high-volume, event-driven services for media ingestion, processing, storage, retrieval, and playback.
• Guide architecture decisions covering service boundaries, data models, APIs, integrations, and modernization of existing services.
• Establish practices for observability, testing, deployment, performance, reliability, incident response, and cloud resource optimization.
• Lead responses to complex production issues and partner with Product, Architecture, and Engineering stakeholders on delivery plans.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers and technical leads while improving tooling, documentation, runbooks, and development processes.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience managing technical teams and developing engineers.
• At least 5 years of experience with video in large-scale production pipelines spanning cloud and edge or endpoint software, including WebRTC, HLS, RTSP, FFmpeg, and GStreamer.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience across backend or infrastructure and embedded or IoT roles.
• Experience owning high-volume, low-latency production services end to end, with strong knowledge of distributed systems, observability, CI/CD, gradual rollouts, and canary releases.
• Hands-on AWS experience with services such as SQS, EKS, Redis, CloudFront, S3, or Lambda, plus experience diagnosing complex cross-service production issues.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada, pass a criminal records check, meet applicable security requirements, and comply with hirify.global security policies.

Nice to have

• Experience with audio and video codecs, audio analysis, or digital signal processing.
• Experience with serverless technologies or Kubernetes.
• Experience with TypeScript, Rust, GCP, or Azure.
