Software Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Build and ship reliable backend features for the mortgage engineering team using Python, Django, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Pydantic, Postgres, and Google Cloud.
• Own backend work end to end, from product and technical requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, internal teams, and external engineering partners on features with cross-team dependencies.
• Contribute to backend architecture, API design, data modelling, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
• Improve system scalability and maintainability while raising engineering standards through clean code and thoughtful reviews.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience building backend systems with Python and practical experience with Django.
• Experience designing or consuming RESTful APIs and designing and exposing GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with Postgres and relational data models; familiarity with Pydantic, typed Python, or modern Python practices.
• Some cloud infrastructure experience, ideally with Google Cloud, or a strong desire to learn.
• Strong engineering judgment, ownership, accountability, and the ability to turn ambiguous problems into shippable solutions.
• Product-minded approach with attention to architecture, performance, reliability, maintainability, and clean code.

Nice to have

• Experience with PDF generation or document rendering workflows.
• Experience in early-stage or fast-moving product teams.
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, alerting, and infrastructure operations.
• Data-driven decision-making and openness to AI-driven changes in product development.
