Lead Backend Engineer (Payments)

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
• Lead technical initiatives across payments infrastructure and external integrations.
• Improve system reliability, observability, operational efficiency, and transaction flows.
• Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, modernize legacy systems, and reduce technical debt.
• Lead architectural discussions, technical decisions, project delivery, planning, and execution.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance while helping grow the engineering team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong Python and Django experience.
• Experience leading engineering projects or teams.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, integrations, and system reliability.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
• English at B2 level or higher and fluent Russian.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Experience leading modernization or system migration initiatives.
