Staff Product Designer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Canada, limited to candidates based in Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, or Kitchener-Waterloo. Office attendance is required at least one day per week.

Annual salary: CAD 169,200 minimum, CAD 199,100 midpoint, and CAD 228,900 maximum.

What you will do

• Lead design system initiatives covering reusable components and product-level interaction patterns across platforms.
• Steward brand and experience principles while improving visual design, interaction design, accessibility, usability, and performance.
• Identify system gaps and drive solutions that improve consistency, usability, design quality, and team velocity.
• Define governance models, contribution processes, best practices, and roadmap priorities.
• Partner with engineering leaders and product teams to improve implementation quality and adoption of design system practices.
• Mentor designers and support a culture of collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Portfolio demonstrating design craft, systems thinking, and measurable impact on product quality or team efficiency.
• 5–10 years of experience designing and evolving design systems, including major redesigns or new product initiatives.
• Deep expertise in interaction design, UI patterns, visual design, and accessibility standards across platforms.
• Experience collaborating closely with engineers and understanding how design translates to code.
• Strong technical literacy with HTML, CSS, and frontend frameworks such as React.
• Strong expertise with Figma, including components, tokens, auto-layout, and prototyping, plus the ability to build alignment with senior leaders.

Nice to have

• Experience scaling design systems in fast-growing, multi-product environments.
• Experience designing B2B SaaS tools for business and small-business customers.
• TypeScript and hands-on coding experience implementing tokens or improving component quality.
• Experience extending design work into code and vice versa.
