TL;DR
Turbopump Turbine Engineer (Aerospace) (turbomachinery and liquid rocket engines): Developing turbines for pump-fed liquid-propellant rocket engines from conceptual architecture and aerodynamic design through manufacturing, testing, and qualification with an accent on turbomachinery modelling, thermomechanical design, and high-temperature materials. Focus on leading hardware roadmaps, correlating models with test data, and solving complex propulsion-system integration challenges across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Location: Parsdorf, Bavaria, Germany

Company

hirify.global develops sustainable launch systems for small and medium-sized satellites and constellations serving Low Earth Orbit.

What you will do

  • Lead the end-to-end development of turbines for pump-fed liquid-propellant rocket engines, from conceptual sizing and architecture trades through manufacturing, testing, and qualification.
  • Develop reduced-order turbomachinery models for engine cycle analysis and maintain three-dimensional turbine design workflows.
  • Perform turbine aerodynamic analyses with the CFD team and support material selection and thermomechanical design for high-temperature, high-pressure rotating hardware.
  • Own the technical development roadmap, including design reviews, risk assessments, manufacturing follow-up, and qualification planning.
  • Plan, support, and evaluate component and integrated engine test campaigns, including instrumentation, test predictions, data review, and model correlation.
  • Collaborate with Cycle, Turbomachinery, Valves, Feed Systems, Controls, Structures, Thermal, Manufacturing, and Test teams.

Requirements

  • MSc in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a comparable technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Several years of liquid rocket engine development experience with significant responsibility for turbine development and testing.
  • Hands-on experience designing, analysing, developing, or testing pump-fed liquid-propellant rocket engines.
  • Strong knowledge of turbine aerodynamics, turbopump power balance and architecture, thermomechanical design, material selection, seals, bearings, and centrifugal pump operation.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or a comparable programming language, plus CAD and CFD software; Siemens NX and StarCCM+ are preferred.
  • Fluent English required; occasional travel for test and launch operations is expected.

Nice to have

  • Experience with transient cycle modelling, including start-up, shutdown, throttling, and off-nominal conditions.
  • Experience taking engine designs from cycle definition and system-level trades into hardware and testing.
  • Experience with engine control, operability, stability, failure-case analysis, multidisciplinary development, or test campaign coordination.
  • Experience correlating models against hot-fire test data.

Culture & Benefits

  • Virtual company share program.
  • 30 days of vacation and a company pension plan with a 20% employer contribution after the probation period.
  • Subsidised lunches and a fully financed Deutschlandticket.
  • Rental workwear with laundry service and sponsored sports club membership.
  • Individual learning allowance after the probation period and childcare allowance for non-school-age children.
