Entry-Level Interior Design Associate (Furniture Retail)

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States; onsite retail showroom

Compensation: $15 per hour during 2–6 weeks of training; post-training base pay of $11 per hour plus uncapped commission and bonuses; average annual earning potential of $55,000–$75,000+.

What you will do

• Help customers select furniture, décor, accessories, fabrics, colors, and design styles for their homes.
• Create customized room layouts and presentations based on customer needs, lifestyles, and space requirements.
• Schedule and support professional home consultations, including furniture, accessory, fabric, and installation recommendations.
• Drive store sales by following the selling process, presenting products, addressing objections, closing sales, and completing follow-up.
• Support customer service through phone and email responsiveness, issue resolution, order processing, deposits, records, and delivery scheduling.
• Maintain showroom displays, design center materials, product tagging, store cleanliness, and opening and closing procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, customer service, interpersonal, organizational, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage time, conflicting priorities, sales goals, and teamwork effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and the schedule required by business needs.
• Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and pass a background and drug screen.

Nice to have

• Previous selling experience and the ability to close sales.
• Experience in interior design, retail, or customer service.
• Experience with design software.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
