Senior Robotics Engineer (Biotech)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts; site-based full-time with no remote work eligibility

Salary: $145,900–$234,200 per year, plus potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for robotics and automation projects supporting research discovery and high-throughput scientific workflows.
• Design system architectures spanning robotics, motion control, instrument control, scheduling, data flow, safety, and orchestration.
• Develop automation software, electronic controls, and workflows integrating robots, instruments, sensors, and data systems.
• Translate scientific and operational needs into specifications, integration plans, risk assessments, verification strategies, and support models.
• Lead integration of robotic platforms, instruments, technologies, and automation modules into modular architectures.
• Advise cross-functional research and engineering stakeholders, mentor engineers and scientists, and contribute to robotics and automation standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 2 years of relevant experience in robotics, automation, systems, controls, software engineering, or a related field.
• Deep experience designing, integrating, and validating robotic systems, electronic controls, scientific instrumentation, and automation software.
• Strong programming skills in Python, C#, or similar languages for automation, instrument control, robotics integration, workflow orchestration, or data-driven platforms.
• Ability to convert complex laboratory and scientific workflows into scalable automated research systems with clear requirements and verification plans.
• Proven complex problem-solving ability, analytical judgment, cross-functional influence, and technical leadership.
• Must work full-time at the Cambridge site and qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export control laws; non-U.S. persons are not eligible and visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

• Experience with liquid-handling robotics, collaborative or industrial robots, motion control, automation safety, and instrument integration.
• Experience with research automation, assay enablement, scientific instrumentation, or automated experimental workflows in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or academic research.
• Experience architecting modular automation systems, orchestration platforms, reusable software frameworks, or extensible robotic workcells.
• Familiarity with lipid nanoparticle development or other complex experimental systems.
• Technical leadership, stakeholder influence, mentorship, and communication across diverse audiences.
