Software Engineer II - Robotics (C++)

Location: Onsite in Pasadena, California, United States

Base salary: $108,000–$135,000 USD annually. Total compensation, including equity: $118,000–$152,600 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain software for robotic platforms, motion-control systems, embedded interfaces, sensing systems, test environments, and operator-facing tools.
• Support the full software lifecycle from concept and simulation through hardware bring-up, integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Integrate software with motors, actuators, encoders, sensors, motion controllers, embedded systems, machine vision, industrial networks, and robotic equipment.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, systems, manufacturing, test, quality, and operations teams to define requirements, interfaces, verification approaches, and release criteria.
• Apply code reviews, Git workflows, CI/CD, automated testing, documentation, and release practices to improve software quality.
• Communicate technical risks, trade studies, test results, implementation plans, and software status to cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• Degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, aerospace engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience with robotics, motion control, embedded systems, hardware systems, or complex technical products.
• Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with experience developing in Linux environments.
• Experience with ROS or ROS 2, including real-time variants or real-time robotics applications.
• Hands-on experience with hardware integration and an understanding of control loops, deterministic timing, and hardware bring-up.
• For work in U.S. offices, candidates must meet applicable ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with motion planning, kinematics, dynamics, trajectory generation, controls software, calibration, perception, state estimation, or sensor fusion.
• Experience with real-time operating systems, bare-metal embedded development, hard real-time control, or safety-critical software.
• Experience with CAN/CANopen, SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, EtherCAT, SPI/I2C, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, PLCs, or other industrial and spacecraft communication interfaces.
• Experience with simulation, digital twins, hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, automated test equipment, or production test systems.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, industrial robotics, medical devices, or other high-reliability hardware environments.
