Trainee Reporting Scientist (Forensic Toxicology)

Location: Feltham, UK; 5 years of continuous UK residency required for NPPV3 and SC security clearance

What you will do

• Complete training in agreed forensic case types and report at least one Section 5 or Section 5A Road Traffic Act case type.
• Develop case strategies, manage caseloads, and deliver work within agreed timescales, quality requirements, and costs.
• Attend court to provide expert testimony after completing expert witness training.
• Draft statements and assist experienced reporters with results and caseloads.
• Communicate with customers about scientific matters, quality, authorisation, financial obligations, and delivery timelines.
• Support analytical work and improve forensic methodologies, processes, quality, and efficiency.

Requirements

• Science-based degree and sufficient laboratory experience to understand scientific and case-management issues.
• Good understanding of analytical techniques used in Road Traffic toxicology cases.
• Ability to interpret toxicology results involving common and less common drug types.
• Experience working in a busy laboratory environment is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, integrity, organisation, resilience, communication, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
• Successful candidates must obtain NPPV3 and Security Clearance (SC) and have 5 years of continuous UK residency.
