Lead AI Developer Tooling Engineer

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; onsite in the office five days a week

Base salary: $150,000–$300,000 USD per year, plus a potential discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Architect, build, and optimize developer-facing tools and services.
• Develop IDE integrations, CLIs, code-analysis tools, and CI/CD workflows as a first-class developer experience product.
• Integrate AI capabilities into developer workflows while making AI assistance transparent, understandable, and controllable.
• Improve availability, latency, efficiency, and reliability across high-volume developer tooling services.
• Drive engineering best practices through code reviews, automation frameworks, technical documentation, and cross-department knowledge sharing.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers on software craftsmanship and technical development.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related technical or analytical discipline, plus 7+ years of relevant software development experience; alternatively, a master's degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience building IDE, CLI, code-analysis, CI/CD, or developer-experience tools.
• Working knowledge of local and remote execution, telemetry, privacy, and enterprise deployment constraints.
• Strong experience with language servers, parsers, build systems, source control, and diagnostics.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and evaluating, coaching others on, and selectively applying AI-generated code in production.
• Experience developing and operating high-volume, mission-critical production services, with strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and operating services on public cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow.
