Engineering Manager

Location: Portugal; fully remote with occasional visits to the offices in Coimbra or Aveiro

What you will do

• Lead, develop, coach, and support a team of software engineers.
• Own execution across requirements, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Translate product strategy and customer needs into engineering priorities, roadmaps, and deliverables.
• Guide architecture and engineering approaches for scalable backend services, APIs, and data-processing systems.
• Drive quality, reliability, security, observability, performance, CI/CD, documentation, and production readiness.
• Recruit and onboard engineering talent while fostering collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including experience leading or managing software engineers.
• Strong background in backend development, APIs, distributed systems, cloud architectures, and modern engineering practices.
• Experience managing the full software lifecycle, including planning, design, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Knowledge of AWS or Azure, software quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and strong communication, decision-making, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
