Platform Engineer - AWS (Genomics)

Location: London, United Kingdom, with office locations in Cambridge, Leeds and London. Blended working requires office attendance at least twice a month, with the option to work remotely abroad for up to 30 days annually subject to approval.

What you will do

• Design, build and operate the AWS Organisation, Landing Zone and cloud platform.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and automation tools such as Ansible.
• Build and optimise GitLab CI/CD pipelines, reusable platform components and Engineering Golden Path templates.
• Implement cloud governance covering security, compliance, cost management and tagging across multi-account AWS environments.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot platform issues and automate solutions that improve resilience and reduce downtime.
• Support and coach engineers across the organisation through enablement, standards and self-service cloud practices.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of commercial experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer or similar DevOps professional.
• At least 2 years of commercial experience with AWS and Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in Python scripting and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Familiarity with Ansible, Chef or Puppet and cloud governance principles.
• Ability to enable and mentor application teams while maintaining architectural and operational standards.

Nice to have

• AWS, Terraform or automation certifications.
• Experience in a Cloud Centre of Excellence.
• A Computer Science or relevant Engineering degree, particularly as a recent graduate.
