Power Substation Communications Engineer (SCADA)

Location: Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; or Amarillo, TX, United States. Travel to client sites is required as needed.

What you will do

• Develop and review electrical design packages for medium- and high-voltage substations.
• Review substation drawings, equipment configurations, and communication architectures.
• Create SCADA point lists, RTU programs, HMI configurations, meter programs, metering overviews, and calculations under lead engineer supervision.
• Develop site network and communication designs that meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Configure substation cybersecurity architectures and apply NERC CIP requirements.
• Evaluate cost, reliability, safety, code compliance, constructability, and root causes of system failures.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of professional experience designing, modeling, developing, and testing substation communication systems related to SCADA/EMS and teleprotection channels.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols, including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP3.0, and Ethernet/IP.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and IEEE standards.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take project ownership, and travel to client sites as required.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
• Prior utility consulting experience.
