Senior Legal Counsel - Data Protection & Privacy (AI)

Location: London, with a hybrid requirement of 3 days in the Osterley office per week. Candidates must have the appropriate right to work in the UK. hirify.global does not offer visa sponsorship for this position.

What you will do

• Advise on UK GDPR, EU GDPR, ePrivacy, AI-related privacy matters, and data protection laws affecting customer, workforce, and contributor data.
• Lead or support complex, high-risk, and strategic matters involving product launches, commercial initiatives, regulatory issues, and business-critical privacy, data, and AI projects.
• Assess AI and data-driven use cases and develop practical, legally defensible solutions based on GDPR, privacy by design, and emerging AI regulation.
• Support implementation of the Group data protection framework, including DPIAs, LIAs, data sharing, international transfers, retention, high-risk processing, policies, controls, and governance mechanisms.
• Advise on consent, customer preferences, marketing, advertising technology, digital products, transparency, fairness, customer rights, incidents, and breaches.
• Collaborate with Data Protection Operations, Cyber, Technology, hirify.global Data, Commercial, and local legal and data protection teams in the UK, Ireland, and Italy; support regulator engagement, documentation, and coaching of junior team members.

Requirements

• UK or equivalent qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience advising on complex UK and EU data protection matters, in-house and/or in private practice.
• Proven experience advising on and implementing legally defensible solutions for complex AI, machine learning, and advanced data use cases, applying UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and privacy by design principles.
• Demonstrable experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping strategic decisions on high-profile, business-critical privacy, data, and AI initiatives.
• Deep expertise in UK GDPR, EU GDPR, ePrivacy, and related regulatory frameworks, with the ability to apply legal principles creatively and pragmatically to business, technology, and AI use cases.
• Experience advising on privacy issues involving content services, advertising technology, audience measurement, marketing technologies, digital products, and data-driven customer experiences.
• Experience providing practical, risk-based legal advice to business stakeholders, with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear guidance.
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions in a fast-paced environment, with commercial awareness and interest in data-driven business models.
• Positive, collaborative approach and enjoyment of working with stakeholders across the business.

Nice to have

• Experience in media, telecommunications, technology, or digital sectors.
• Experience advising within a media, telecommunications, or technology organisation operating across a broad range of services and products.
• Experience working in a large, matrixed organisation.
• Familiarity with cross-border data protection issues and emerging cyber and digital regulation.
• Experience advising on data protection issues in the content space, including news, production, or sports.
• Experience supporting governance frameworks or transformation programmes.
