L&H Underwriter (Life & Health)

Location: Fort Wayne, IN; Windsor, CT; Armonk, NY; Chicago, IL; Kansas City, MO; or Alpharetta, GA, United States. Hybrid work is expected three days per week; exceptional candidates may work remotely. Travel is expected to be 10% or less.

Base salary: $96,000–$144,000 for Armonk, NY, or $88,000–$132,000 for Fort Wayne, Alpharetta, Windsor, Chicago, and Kansas City.

What you will do

• Apply disciplined, evidence-based risk selection across medical, non-medical, financial, product, market, and governance considerations.
• Manage complex and unusual cases, escalating appropriately and applying hirify.global underwriting guidelines in commercially sound ways.
• Partner with clients and internal cross-functional teams, responding to underwriting inquiries within service standards.
• Promote and apply Life Guide, hirify.global’s underwriting manual, while staying current on updates.
• Participate in client seminars, webinars, thought leadership discussions, and relevant industry engagement.
• Maintain knowledge of insurance products, legislation, taxation, underwriting tools, digital resources, AI-enabled capabilities, and system enhancements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Life & Health underwriting experience in insurance or reinsurance, including risk selection and case management.
• FLMI and/or FALU designation, or active and meaningful progress toward earning one.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for evaluating complex medical, financial, and non-medical risks.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled underwriting tools, digital resources, and process or system innovation.
• Excellent communication, conflict resolution, time management, and organizational skills.
• Visa sponsorship, visa transfers, visa extensions, and relocation support are not available.

Nice to have

• Experience in a reinsurance environment and familiarity with facultative underwriting processes.
• Interest in thought leadership, seminars, webinars, and professional forums.
• Knowledge of U.S. Life & Health legislation, taxation, and core insurance products.
