TL;DR
Accountant (Payroll Accounting): Supporting monthly and year-end payroll accounting, financial close, reconciliations, reporting, and audit activities with an accent on payroll journal entries, balance sheet validation, and US GAAP compliance. Focus on resolving reconciling items, coordinating audit walkthroughs, maintaining process documentation, and identifying automation opportunities using tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, Python, and SQL.
Location: Penang, Malaysia; hybrid work model with time split between the site and off-site work

What you will do
- Support monthly and quarterly financial close activities for the Hire to Retire Accounting team.
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, including salary accruals, cash clearing, and statutory contributions.
- Perform monthly payroll-related balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
- Support year-end accounting for stock-based compensation, bonuses, leave liabilities, and other accounting areas.
- Liaise with external auditors, conduct payroll walkthroughs, and manage audit queries and reconciliations.
- Maintain process documentation and support automation and operational improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial compliance, and US GAAP reporting standards.
- Proficiency in SAP or an equivalent ERP system, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Analytical skills for addressing complex financial data and reconciliation issues.
- Ability to work in the hybrid model associated with the site in Penang, Malaysia.
Nice to have
- Membership in or progress toward CPA, ACCA, MICPA, or MIA qualification.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, Python, or SQL scripting.
- Experience in project management, process improvement, or automation initiatives.
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with diverse teams.
