Distinguished Engineer - AI Adoption

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; in-office work is required 3 days per week. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance from an hirify.global office unless an accommodation is granted.

Salary: $254,584–$381,876 per year for the Chicago location.

What you will do

• Lead enterprise AI adoption with business units, engineering, product, architecture, security, legal, compliance, procurement, and external vendors.
• Translate business problems into AI-enabled designs covering agentic workflows, LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation, automation, decision support, and AI-assisted engineering.
• Evaluate vendors, foundation models, cloud AI platforms, agentic tools, and orchestration frameworks through prototypes, proofs of concept, benchmarks, and technical assessments.
• Create decision matrices and evaluation criteria covering use-case fit, cost, performance, security, scalability, reliability, integration complexity, compliance, and Responsible AI.
• Design reusable agentic frameworks, reference architectures, prompts, orchestration approaches, integration models, API patterns, guardrails, and deployment standards.
• Build technical accelerators and prototypes across cloud platforms, enterprise systems, APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and DevOps environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 15 years of software engineering experience, including leadership in distributed systems and large-scale architectures.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining software with Python, Java, or comparable object-oriented languages.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience applying cloud, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Must be within reasonable commuting distance of an hirify.global office and work onsite 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience evaluating and implementing AI solutions from multiple vendors and cloud AI platforms.
• Experience developing agentic frameworks, reusable design patterns, prompt strategies, orchestration flows, tool-calling patterns, RAG patterns, and human-in-the-loop models.
• Experience creating technical scorecards, benchmarks, reference implementations, enablement materials, and AI adoption playbooks.
• Experience influencing executives, architects, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders through hands-on technical delivery.
