Sr Staff/Principal Laser Design Engineer (Photonics)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; flexible hybrid workplace model

Salary: CAD 185,000–233,000 per year base salary, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Propose photonic designs for modulators, receivers, multiplexers, lasers, and amplifiers.
• Provide performance, power, and area estimates for photonic devices within Passage.
• Collaborate with analog engineering on high-bandwidth photonic interconnect solutions.
• Define micro-architecture from component-level design through top-level layout.
• Author, review, and validate architectural specifications for engineering teams.

Requirements

• PhD in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or a related photonics discipline.
• In-depth knowledge of photonic devices and semiconductor physics.
• Experience with integrated silicon photonics components.
• Experience with photonic simulation tools such as FDTD, umerical, Verilog-A, or VPI Photonics.
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, including for problems without obvious solutions.
• Capacity to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control requirements.
