TL;DR
Optical Verification Engineer Co-op/Intern (Photonics): Developing optical test and measurement techniques, station architectures, and automated test software for photonic and optical communications products with an accent on optical characterization, validation, and failure analysis. Focus on designing test cases, debugging optical, hardware, and software failures, and improving test coverage and measurement robustness.
Location: Onsite in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Salary: CAD $24–35 per hour

What you will do
- Apply optics and photonics theory to improve test and measurement robustness.
- Develop measurement techniques and station architectures for critical optical parameters.
- Design and execute test cases to validate product features.
- Implement and expand automated test software and scripts to improve coverage and result quality.
- Analyze optical, hardware, and software failures and report findings to relevant designers.
- Contribute to test execution, troubleshooting, and continuous process improvement.
Requirements
- At least two years completed toward a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or an equivalent field.
- Currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Technical knowledge of active optical and electromagnetic components.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, communication, and initiative-taking skills.
- Understanding of test plans, test execution, bug reporting, and basic electrical hardware concepts.
- Eligibility to complete a background check.
Nice to have
- Experience with software development, drivers, instrumentation, and automation.
- Familiarity with optical laboratory practices.
- Ability to guide and support team members.

Hiring process
- Applicants must be eligible to complete a background check.
- The position is offered as an 8-month term from January to August 2027, with a preferred 12-month option from January to December 2027.
