Synthetic DNA Process Development Scientist

Location: Louisville, KY, USA; candidates must live within a commutable distance. Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with overtime and weekend work as needed.

What you will do

• Design, develop, optimize, and scale chemical synthesis processes for nucleotides and oligonucleotides.
• Develop and improve oligonucleotide purification processes using HPLC, ion exchange, and desalting.
• Troubleshoot synthesis and purification issues to improve yield and purity.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality control, and engineering teams on process transfer.
• Evaluate new chemistries and technologies for high-throughput oligonucleotide production.
• Write SOPs, batch records, and technical reports, ensure quality-system compliance, and mentor laboratory technicians.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
• At least 5 years of industrial experience in chemical synthesis.
• Hands-on experience with solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis and oligonucleotide purification process development.
• Strong analytical skills with HPLC and LC-MS, plus experience scaling processes to manufacturing.
• Authorization to work indefinitely in the United States without restriction or sponsorship is required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and provide occasional off-hours support.

Nice to have

• Experience in GMP or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with automated DNA/RNA synthesizers.
• Knowledge of modified nucleotides.
• Experience with high-throughput oligonucleotide production.
