Test Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States

Salary: $210,000–$260,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the test program from initial compressor spin through validated performance maps.
• Specify and commission test cells, including motor test benches, high-pressure gas loops, load banks, and instrumentation.
• Define measurement chains and uncertainty budgets for isentropic efficiency, coefficient of performance, and related metrics.
• Write test plans, safety interlocks, and abort criteria for high-pressure and high-speed machinery.
• Turn test data into design changes and work directly within the hardware design loop.
• Lead failure investigations and use test results to improve compressor and thermofluids designs.

Requirements

• Experience commissioning test stands from a bare bay, including instrumentation, calibration, shakedown, and first-article testing.
• Experience deliberately testing machinery to failure while collecting enough data to identify the failure mechanism.
• Ability to own uncertainty budgets and assess the value and reliability of measurements.
• Experience writing interlock and abort logic for systems involving stored energy, high pressure, or high speed.
• Ability to challenge design assumptions with test data and carry investigations through to hardware-changing root causes.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle.

Nice to have

• Propulsion and engine testing, including hot fire, spin pit, or green run programs.
• Rotating machinery testing involving compressors, turbines, or motor test benches.
• High-pressure gas loops, pressure-rated test rigs, data acquisition, or rig control.
• Experience with LabVIEW, NI systems, or PLC-based test stands.
• Thermal and refrigeration performance testing, including COP mapping or calorimetry.
