TL;DR
Thermodynamics Engineer (AI): Designing and modeling large-scale cooling infrastructure for AI data centers with an accent on thermodynamic cycle modeling, heat exchanger design, and fluid system architecture. Focus on solving extreme heat rejection challenges at the gigawatt scale and building proprietary hardware solutions.

Location: Must be based in or able to work from Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle (Hybrid)

Compensation: $210,000 – $260,000 + Equity

hirify.global is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI, focusing on rapid deployment of gigawatt-scale data centers through in-house hardware and software innovation.

What you will do

  • Define machine specifications and own the cycle model for working fluids, pressures, and temperatures.
  • Design massive-scale heat exchangers and fluid systems including piping, valves, and relief paths.
  • Run trade studies on air-side temperature rise, face velocity, and subcooling to optimize machine performance.
  • Validate cycle predictions on test stands and reconcile models against measured performance data.
  • Collaborate across hardware and software teams to scale cooling solutions for 10+ GW compute environments.

Requirements

  • Must have US work authorization.
  • Proven experience building thermodynamic cycle models from fluid properties.
  • Experience sizing real heat exchangers against published correlations.
  • Ability to calibrate models against machine datasheets or test data with honest reporting of gaps.
  • Experience in relief path sizing and system safety sign-off.
  • Strong technical communication skills for documenting design decisions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with vapor-compression and transcritical cycles (chillers, heat pumps).
  • Background in propulsion or cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Familiarity with CoolProp, REFPROP, or specific heat-transfer correlations.
  • Knowledge of data center thermal architecture (CDUs, dry coolers, direct-to-chip).
